Tamil Nadu is emerging as the only piece of bad news for the Congress alliance as BJP ally, Jayalalitha led All Indian Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam (AIADMK) is heading towards a nearly assured win.
After seeming neck and neck in very early trends, AIADMK has now notched up nearly double the seats of rival Karunanidhi’s DMK even as leads are in from half of the seats.
Out of 234 seats in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK has tightened its grip over 196 seats, according to current trends. DMK and Congress is likely to end up with around 38 seats. BJP will get 1 seat.
The election was in news due to the handing out of cash, especially by the ruling DMK, in return for ‘swearing’ that voters will cast their votes to it.
AIADMK’s victory has been more spectacular than predicted by any opinion or exit poll, indicating that voters claimed to be voting for DMK while they actually voted for the opposition.
