The Congress Party has officially called Anna Hazare and his movement a proxy for the RSS, after tip-toeing around the allegation for several days.
Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari said that the Party did not think Anna Hazare was an “instrumentality of forces” two weeks ago, but is now convinced that he is.
“..the forces in whose company they are seen, the manner in which democractic institutions are sought to be undermined.. yes, there has been a revision in the assessment,” he said.
This is the first time that the Congress is calling the veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare and his band of followers as RSS agents.
Earlier, it had claimed Baba Ramdev was an agent of the RSS, but did level this accusation against the Anna group. Earlier in the day, the Anna group had launched a scathing attack over the statements made by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee over the weekend.
“Do not mistake our sensitivity for our weakness,” Tewari warned, an indirect threat that the government may use force against Anna too.
The move is seen as an attempt to “escape” out of the commitments given by the government to the Anna Hazare more than a month ago.
