Outsourced services provider Infosys today bagged a major client in the form of ArcelorMittal, the world’s leading steel and mining company. ArcelorMittal is a Luxembourgish multinational steel manufacturing corporation headquartered in Luxembourg City. It was formed in 2006 from the takeover and merger of Arcelor by Indian-owned Mittal Steel and is the world's largest steel producer, with an annual crude steel production of 92.5 million metric tonnes as of 2018. The steelmaker decided to pick Infosys to help the company's digital transformation and enable next-generation application management and business process management (BPM) services for ArcelorMittal Europe, the Bangalore-based firm said, announcing the multi-year engagement. "Through this engagement, Infosys will work with ArcelorMittal Europe, share best practices around next generation application management services to optimize, stabilize, and transform ArcelorMittal’s IT landscape. "Infosys will also establish a robust, state-of-the-art Business Process Management (BPM) service in ArcelorMittal Europe’s Business Center of Excellence (BCoE) shared services center. The collaboration will further strengthen Infosys’ presence in Europe and will enable Infosys to maximise synergies across the ArcelorMittal Group worldwide," it added. It is not clear whether ArcelorMittal was already obtaining such services from any other outsourcing company and if so, who that vendor was. Geert Van Poelvoorde, CEO of ArcelorMittal Europe, said his company's new partner offers "agility, delivery excellence, and willingness to walk the extra mile". "We are confident that this collaboration will mean our employees and associates are equipped with powerful new tools that enhance our competitiveness and fuel our innovation.” Companies like ArcelorMittal are looking to companies like Infosys and TCS primarily to help reduce operating costs. This is achieved through greater automation of processes and the application of IT and analytics to reduce wastage and improve efficiency. Infosys said the need for digital transformation has "never been more urgent" in the manufacturing sector. It said it will use its global delivery model, right shoring, and robust BPM offerings to bring down costs and improve operations.
