Google Nexus 6, arguably the most sought after high-end phone in India right now, will start shipping in the next two days from Flipkart in India, according to a source in the e-commerce firm.
The online retailer had opened the Google Nexus 6 for preorder on Nov 18, more than a month ago, but had not started shipping the phone yet. At present, Flipkart has a ‘pre-order over’ notice on the Nexus 6 page on its website.
Anxious fans waiting for the phone to be available in India can finally relax as everyone who have prebooked the phone will start getting deliveries by the end of the week.
Though not cheap at Rs 44,000, the Google Nexus 6 carries on the legacy of being Google’s Android flagship and will be the first model in India to come with Android Lolipop built-in. Models like HTC M8 are expected to get Lolipop update soon over the air.
In addition, the Google Nexus 6 also has nearly every high-end feature available in any phone in India right now, including a quad-HD display, a 2.7 GHz fastest-of-the-fastest Snapdragon 805 chipset, 3 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of inbuilt memory.
The only downside is the camera, which is only 13 MP. The phone is the third cheapest quad-HD phone launched in India, after the LG G3.
However, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which has very similar features except for the camera, which is 16 MP, is priced at Rs 55,000, while the Nexus 6 is priced at just Rs 44,000 — a substantial saving.
Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, which is also being launched in the Indian market as we speak, will be priced above Rs 60,000.
Like the Galaxy Note 4, the Nexus 6 comes with a 3.22 Ah battery and a range of LTE connectivity options.
However, on the downside, despite supporting 10 different LTE configurations, the Google flagship will not work on the most widespread band of LTE found in India at present – band 40.
The Nexus 6, however, will work on Band 3, which is also being widely deployed by operators like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India. Band 3 also has better coverage than band 40, which tends to be used more for nomadic usage for connecting to PCs.
The phone also has a f/2.0 lens, which should help with lowlight shots. The Nexus 6 is supposed to use an advanced computational photography technology as well as HDR+, and records 4K videos at 30 frames per second.
The display uses AMOLED technology and comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
In short, other than the quad-HD Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, which has been out of stock on Flipkart for several weeks, there are no other value-for-money phones with quad-HD displays that can compete with the Nexus 6.
