HTC Desire 620g, the lower-speced version of the LTE-supporting HTC Desire 620, has hit India at a price of Rs 15,500.
The phone was launched in Taiwan last week at a price of Rs 10,000. However, taxes and transportation costs has bumped the price of the phone by around Rs 5,000 in India.
Still, the Desire 620g offers the HTC experience at an affordable price point, and will be an upgrade from the Jelly Bean-powered, Rs 14,000 Desire 816.
The other phone, Desire 620, which will support both types of LTE launched in India, is expected to be priced around Rs 20,500 and launched later this month. It will be among the cheapest LTE phones in India.
Unlike the 620, however, the 620g does not come with LTE, but only 3G. Also, the ‘g’ version comes with a MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor, while 620 comes with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor.
Other than that, the there are almost no differences between the 620 and the 620g.
Both come with 5-inch 720p displays, 1 GB of RAM, 8 + 5 MP cameras, 2100 mAh battery and 8 GB of RAM.
The HTC Desire 620 is the latest in HTC’s ’20’ series. The Taiwanese brand had earlier unveiled the Desire 820 and 820q, priced in the Rs 22,000-25,000 price range.
Large scale availability of the 620g in India is expected only next week and the week after.
Interestingly, HTC has been launching most of its new phones in India ahead of other markets, particularly its mid-range variants like Desire 816g, 820 etc..
The 620g, however, will face tough competition from the Xiaomi RedMi Note, Acer Liquid Jade, the ZTE Grand 2 and the RedMi 1S.
Another phone being launched in India is the Desire Eye. The Taiwanese brand has very high brand recall in India and is considered synonymous with quality.
However, HTC has almost always focused on the high-end market in India traditionally. Over the last six months, the company has overhauled its strategy in India and broadened its focus.
