ZTE launched its Grand S II smartphone, which has similar features to the Xiaomi Mi3 and Mi4, and is also priced very cheap -at just Rs 14,000.
ZTE Grand S2 will be available exclusively on Amazon from December 1.
The ZTE Grand S2 has a 5.5 inch multi-touch, full-HD screen display and comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with a quad core CPU, supported by a battery of 2500 mAh.
RAM is 2GB, and there is no LTE. It also comes with 16GB internal memory and dual SIM support.
At present, this is the cheapest phone in this category from a foreign brand, though the Micromax A300 Gold is also a available at similar prices.
“The handset has a rear camera of 13 mega pixel and front camera of 5 mega pixel making it a photographers delight. It has a 2GB RAM with inbuilt storage capacity of 16 GB which can be further added with extra 32 GB. The smartphone has an Android OS supported by UI Mi Favor permitting users flawless multitasking capabilities,” ZTE said.
In addition, unlike Xiaomi Mi4 and Mi3 which come with a 5-inch screen, the ZTE Grand S2 comes with a 5.5-inch display.
The move by ZTE is likely to further put pressure on Indian brands and possibly drive them out more and more from the market.
It follows similar launches from fellow Chinese brands such as Huawei, Lenovo and soon, Vivo.
Just last week, Xiaomi launched its Redmi Note priced at just Rs 9,999. Unlike other phones, the Note comes with LTE. However, it is not clear when Flipkart will start selling the LTE version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note, as it will conduct a flash sale tomorrow that will only offer the 3G-only version.
