Elephone G6 launched in India on by Ebay

It is raining Chinese brands in India – after Vivo, Xiaomi and Gionee, it is the turn of the Hong Kong-based Elephone to launch its flagship G6 in India priced in the Rs 8,500-9,000 range.

According to an industry source, a prominent e-commerce portal is likely to be the sole distributor for the phone. Since Flipkart has been doing most of the exclusive launches, we are guessing the phone is headed for the portal as well.

UPDATE: The launch has taken place on eBay, and not Flipkart. Price is Rs 8,700.

The Elephone offers good specifications at a price that is cheaper than that offered by Indian players like Micromax and Karbonn Mobiles.

For example, the Micromax Canvas Nitro A310, which has almost the same specifications as this model, is priced at Rs 12,300 in the Indian market. The Karbonn Titanium Octane, which too very similar specifications, is priced at Rs 9,900.

The launch of the Elephone G6 in India will be yet another attack by Chinese brands in the market.

Already, Xiaomi has launched the very similar Redmi 1S at Rs 6,000, and Huawei has launched the similarly speced Honor Holly at Rs 7,000.

Elephone will add to the mid-range tussle with the G6.

In fact, the Elephone is slightly superior to the Redmi 1S and the Huawei Honor Holly, and while these two are in the entry-level market, the Elephone G6 can be considered a mid-range phone.

The Elephone G6 comes with a 720p HD display, 1 GB of RAM and a more-powerful octa-core MTK6592 processor. It has a 5-inch display, 13 MP camera and Android KitKat 4.4. Battery is 2.25 Ah.

Unlike the other two phones, the Elephone G6 also has a fingerprint scanner at the back.

The phone is currently available in Hong Kong for about $130 (Rs 8,000).
