The models, which will come with a 1280*800 pixel displays, will be the first ever in India to come with quad-core Intel processors. So far, nearly all the tablets in India come with Clover Trail dual-core processors such as the Fonepad 7 2014, which comes with the Intel Z2520 processor.

However, in terms of performance, the new processors will be about twice as powerful as the existing Clover Trail processors.

The calling tablets, which will also have Android KitKat, will come with 1 GB of RAM, 5 MP rear camera, 2 MP front camera and 16 GB of processor.

The price of the Fonepad with Moorefield quad-core Atom Z3560 will be around Rs 16,000. In comparison, the similarly speced Clover Trail Asus Fonepad 7 is priced at Rs 11,500.

Intel has been trying very hard to muscle into the tablet and phone territory. However, its chips and solutions have suffered from the lack of integrated cellphone radio (2G/3G/LTE).

Unlike Clover Trail, the Moorefield chips are built on 22 nanometer process, which will save power. The Moorefield chips, however, are expected to be overtaken by Intel’s own Cherry Trail platform, which will be built around the Airmont core.

Going ahead of Moorefield, the Cherry Trail platform will be based on the 14 nanometer process. It will also have integrated cellphone radio and is expected to finally make Intel a big player in the smartphone market.

At present, apart from the Asus Zenphone series, which is powered by the Clover Trail ATom Z2560, there are virtually no other popular phones that are powered by Intel processors in India.

The Moorefield quad-core Atom processors are likely to be as, if not more, powerful compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processors. In addition, all the processors are 64-bit enabled.
