The Mobile Store has started shipping the recently launched HTC Desire 816G, the lower priced version of the Desire 816.
The HTC Desire 816G dual SIM (DS) was announced along with the 64-bit HTC Desire 820. However, unlike the Desire 820 (price around Rs 23,000) the 816G comes with a cheaper Mediatek quad-core processor.
The two models mark a shift in HTC’s pricing strategy in India. Not content to play only in the Rs 30,000-plus market, HTC has priced the 816G aggressively at Rs 18,990. The phone is the cheaper version of the Desire 816, which comes at a price of Rs 24,000 and has a Snapdragon processor and not a Mediatek processor.
For the new 816G, HTC has announced the price as Rs 18,990, which has been relied on by the Mobile Store as well. However, as stock becomes available at more places this week, the prices may fall to Rs 18,500.
Most big stockists and retailers in India will get stocks of 816G this week.
At this price, the HTC Desire 816G offers value for money for those who don’t want to go for Indian or Chinese brands. While similarly speced phones Indian brands are available for Rs 10,000, HTC phones will have better build quality.
The Desire 816G does not come with LTE, but has dual SIM and Android KitKat, plus 1 GB of RAM. The 5.5-inch phone also has dual speakers on the front for stereoscopic experience.
HTC is learnt to be focusing more and more on being present in both the Rs 10,0000-15,000 range, as well as in the Rs 20,000 and the Rs 30,000-plus segments.
