HTC Eye, a 5.2-inch smartphone from the Taiwanese brand, will be positioned just below the HTC E8, the lower-priced version of the flagship M8 model, and is expected to be available in a month.
According to our sources, the HTC Eye, which would be announced globally at an event in New York on October 8, will be priced at Rs 35,000 in India, compared to Rs 33,000 for the HTC One E8 and Rs 42,000 for the M8.
Other specifications of the HTC Eye, as leaked by @upleaks, include a full HD display, Snapdragon 810 platform that would imply a 2.5GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU.
While there are rumors that the HTC Eye smartphone would be a ‘selfie-focused phone’, the company has already launched the Desire 820 earlier this week with an 8-megapixel front camera. Chances are that the HTC Desire 820, expected to be available after a month, is the selfie-focused phone.
Most of the rumors focus are based on the name HTC Eye, which is taken to mean that the USP of the phone is likely to be its camera. However, there are some who speculate that it could be something related to the phone’s graphics capabilities or software too.
If priced at Rs 31,000, as suggested by a source, the phone would be one of the most attractive full HD smartphones from HTC in India. However, with the HTC One E8 already available with almost the same exact specifications at almost the same price, the question is – what is the real differentiator for the Eye? Will it help the company claw back some market share in India, one of the fastest growing markets in the world and where it has lost ground to Samsung and LG in the past few years.
