Lenovo to launch its cheapest 5-inch phone, A536, at Rs 6,400

The battle for entry level smartphones is all set to intensify with Lenovo planning to launch a new model, the A536, in India in the next two weeks, according to market sources.

The phone, which comes with a 5 inch, 854 × 480 pixel LCD display and a quadcore mediatek MT6582m processor, will be priced between Rs 6,000 and Rs 6,500.

At present, the cheapest 5-inch Lenovo phone is the S880, priced at Rs 9,200.

The Lenovo A536 will come with a 5 megapixel camera at the back and a 2 MP camera at the front and will have a 2,000 mAh (2 Ah) battery. It will have 3G, WLAN, GPS, Bluetooth 4 and 1 GB of RAM.

It will be the successor to the A526, which is priced at Rs 6,600. The A526 is a 4.5-inch phone.

It’s closest competitor will be the Moto e, which has been flying off the shelves in India so far. However, there will be two key differences between the Moto e and the Lenov model.

First is price – the Lenovo A536 will be priced slightly below the Rs 7,000 tag on the Moto e, and it will have a lower resolution, but bigger, display.

While the Moto e’s 4.3 inch display has 960*540 pixels, the Lenovo model has a lower number of pixels. However, for fans of 5-inch phones who want a branded phone at a lower cost, the Lenove A536 will turn out to be irrestible.

Android version on the Lenovo model is not known, though it is expected to be 4.4. The phone is yet to be launched in the global market. It will be priced around $75 in international markets.

Another similarly speced phone that is going to be lauched at roughly the same time is the Celkon Q5. It also has nearly the exact same specifications (display, processor etc.) and will be priced in the Rs 6,500-7,000 bracket.
