Eros Entertainment said Ajay Devgan starrer Singham Returns has collected 7.5 lakh dirhams in the UAE on Thursday, its opening day in the Arab country.
The weekend begins on Thursday evening in the Gulf countries as Friday is a weekly holiday for them.
Total weekend collection overseas was $2.4 million or about Rs 14.5 crore, a statement on behalf of Eros said. The number can be seen in proportion to the total estimate of Rs 32 crore for the film as a whole during the first weekend.
Eros, which is Singham Returns’ overseas distributor, said the collections indicate that it is the biggest box office opener for Ajay Devgan in UAE.
It is also the biggest opener for producer Rohit Shetty after Chennai Express, a statement on behalf of Eros said.
Singham Returns is a sequel to the largely successful, south-style action movie Singham. It was based on the 2010 Tamil blockbuster Singam, which had Suriya and Anushka Shetty in lead roles.
Singham returns was released in India on August 15, the independence day.
