Royal Enfield, the two-wheeler division of Eicher Motors, is preparing for an exciting lineup of new motorcycle launches over the next few years. With a rich 120-year history and a strong heritage in building classic styled motorcycles, Royal Enfield has seen a resurgence in popularity and sales growth in recent years. However, it is also facing increased competition from the likes of the Hero-Harley Davidson combination, Honda, and the Bajaj-Triumph combination.
But RE is in no mood to cede an inch, and has nearly 10 models set to be launched in the next 1-2 years, going by official and non-official leaks and information. We introduce you to the ten upcoming Royal Enfield models that can hit the road starting as early as next month.
Himalayan 450
One of the most anticipated upcoming launches is the new Himalayan 450 adventure tourer motorcycle expected by November 2023. Slotted to be priced around Rs 3 lakh ex-showroom, this new Himalayan model will be built on an all-new 450cc platform and is envisioned as a more accessible and affordable adventure touring option compared to the current 411cc Himalayan. The new 450cc engine is expected to offer improved power and torque over the current 411cc unit, providing enhanced off-road capability and cruising comfort on long rides.
Visually, the Himalayan 450 is expected to retain the rugged, minimalist styling of the original Himalayan but with design updates. Improved ergonomics for comfort on long rides, increased ground clearance, and better suspension travel for off-road use will be some of the highlights. The uniquely styled circular headlamp, luggage racks, and windscreen are design elements likely to be carried over from the current Himalayan. Adventure riding enthusiasts will be keenly waiting for this new mid-size adventure tourer from Royal Enfield.
Himalayan 450 Rally
Building on the Himalayan 450, Royal Enfield plans to launch the Himalayan 450 Rally edition by end of 2024, expected to be priced around Rs 3.5 lakh ex-showroom. This model will take inspiration from rally-raid motorcycles and is envisioned to be a more specialized, hardcore off-road version of the standard Himalayan 450.
Key features are likely to include a more dirt-oriented design with a smaller and more rugged fuel tank, longer travel suspension, off-road biased tyres, engine bash plate, rally styled bodywork and colours. The Rally edition will be tailored for enthusiasts who want to take their adventure touring into challenging terrain and rally-style events. With enhanced capability for dirt, trails and desert riding, the Himalayan 450 Rally promises to bring a new dimension to Royal Enfield’s adventure line-up.
Scram 450
For urban riding enthusiasts, Royal Enfield is developing the Scram 450 roadster expected to launch in early 2024 at a projected price of around Rs 2.5 lakh ex-showroom. Sharing the new 450cc engine platform of the Himalayan 450, the Scram 450 is envisioned as a street scrambler motorcycle inspired by the Scrambler 900.
The Scram 450 is likely to have a road-biased design with lowered suspension travel, road-oriented tyres and slightly re-tuned engine mapping compared to the Himalayan 450. Key styling elements are expected to include a compact, minimalist fuel tank, flat handlebars, dual-purpose tyres, chopped rear fender, and twin exhausts for enhanced street presence. The Scram 450 will aim to bring an accessible scrambler-styled motorcycle to urban riders.
Scram 450 Scrambler and Café Racer
Further expanding the Scram 450 range, Royal Enfield is developing Scrambler and Café Racer variants slotted for launch in 2024. The Scram 450 Scrambler promises to be a more retro-styled scrambler motorcycle taking design cues from 1960s-70s era scramblers. Expected to be priced around Rs 3 lakh, the Scrambler variant is likely to feature spoked wheels, knobby tyres, upswept exhaust, minimal bodywork and dual-tone paint schemes.
The Scram 450 Café Racer focuses on bringing a vintage café racer styling and ergonomics. With clip-on handlebars, rear-set footpegs, single seat, and retro fairing and bodywork, the Café Racer model aims to evoke a classic race-bred experience on the new 450cc engine platform. Expected at Rs 3 lakh ex-showroom, the Scram 450 range will provide street-focused offerings expanding Royal Enfield’s retro-styled roadster line-up.
650cc platform
In addition to the new 450cc models, Royal Enfield will also be expanding its modern 650cc parallel twin platform via launches over 2023-24.
Continental GT 650 Race Replica
Slotted for launch in July 2023 at around Rs 3.4 lakh, the Continental GT 650 Race Replica will bring race-inspired styling to the GT roadster line-up. Visual enhancements such as a new colour scheme, fly-screen, solo seat cowl, and rearsets along with performance upgrades like an Akrapovic dual exhaust aim to evoke the spirit of 1960s café racers. Limited production numbers are likely to add exclusivity.
Classic 650
The Classic 650 cruiser is expected to hit showrooms in September 2023 carrying an approximate price tag of Rs 3.1 lakh. Expanding the retro-classic styled modern cruiser line, the Classic 650 will draw inspiration from 1950s American cruisers. Chrome, whitewall tyres, painted fuel tanks, wire-spoke wheels and retro badging will emphasize its classic appeal. The goal will be to bring a more accessible modern classic cruiser option compared to the Interceptor and Continental GT.
Shotgun 650
Designed as a bobber-styled modern classic, the Shotgun 650 is planned for launch in October 2023 with prices around Rs 3.25 lakh. The Shotgun promises to bring a factory custom bike flavour to Royal Enfield’s offerings. Key styling elements are likely to comprise chopped rear fender, fat front wheel, stubby exhausts, single seat, and circular all-LED headlamp to showcase its bobber personality. The Shotgun 650 intends to attract custom motorcycle fans looking for a factory-built modern classic bobber.
Bullet 650
The iconic Bullet nameplate will also get a 650cc overhaul with the upcoming Bullet 650 expected in mid-2024 carrying an approximate Rs 3 lakh price tag. The new Bullet 650 is envisioned to retain the classic, timeless styling of the legendary Bullet profile but with a modern 648cc twin-cylinder heart. The simple, retro Bullet styling will be reinterpreted on the larger 650 platform to expand Royal Enfield’s retro appeal and attract more customers.
Himalayan 650
One of the most anticipated launches will be the Himalayan 650 slotted for arrival in July 2025. Expected to be priced around Rs 3.8 lakh, the new 650cc Himalayan promises to take adventure touring abilities to new heights. Building on everything that makes the Himalayan an accessible and capable adventure bike, the 650cc powerplant aims to offer improved off-road performance, higher cruising speeds, and long-range tour-ability with the parallel-twin motor. The Himalayan 650 has the potential to take Royal Enfield deeper into the premium adventure touring space.
Royal Enfield has built tremendous brand strength and following over the decades. Now, with this strong foundation, its upcoming portfolio aims to capture the growing segments of premium motorcycling in India and across the world. While remaining faithful to the core Royal Enfield philosophy of making simple, evocative, fun retro-styled motorcycles, this expanding range will help strengthen Royal Enfield’s position as it enters its next chapter of growth and evolution.
