Tata Power said its solar unit has got a Rs 1,505 cr contract to set up a 250 megawatt solar power plant for India’s largest power producer NTPC.
The contract, the biggest ever to be received by the company from an external customer, has to be completed in 20 months.
With this order, the order book of Tata Power Solar stands at approximately ₹7,600 crore including external and internal orders, said the company.
“This is a prestigious project for us and we are thankful to NTPC for reinforcing their confidence in our capabilities,” said Ashish Khanna, President-Renewables, Tata Power, adding that the deal underscored his company’s status as a prominent EPC player.
Only domestically manufactured cells and modules can be used for the project.
India still does not have a single plant that makes wafers, and imports them and converts them into cells and modules.
In November 2019, Tata Power Solar had also received a LOA from NTPC to develop a 105 MW floating solar project in Kayamkulam, Kerala.
The ₹343 core project, required to be commissioned not later than 21 months, includes a three-year maintenance component.
The project is one of the most prominent floating solar projects in the country.
Tata Power is both a power producer as well as a construction contractor.
It has an installed capacity of 10,763 MW spread over hydro, thermal and renewable sources. The latter account for about 30% of its capacity.
It is also present in traansmission & distribution, trading and coal & freight logistics.
Of late, the company has also been eyeing the consumer market by setting up electric vehicle charging points in places like Mumbai.
