Maruti Suzuki releases ‘first sketch’ of Innova-rival XL6, launch soon

Maruti Suzuki XL6 – First Sketch

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, released the ‘first sketch’ of XL6 — its ‘premium three-row vehicle’ that is likely to take on the likes of XUV500 and Toyota Innova.

The XL6 is based on the Ertiga platform, but offers upgraded features and is more ‘sporty’ with greater ground clearance than the Ertiga. The Ertiga itself got a big facelift a few months ago, and now looks far more premium than its first avatar.

Compared with Eritga, the XL6 has a more upright nose, a flatter hood, a new grille and prominently angular headlamps. It also has wider wheel arches and roof rails.

Releasing the ‘first sketch’, the company said it is now ready to introduce the model to the market. No launch date was specified, however.

Pricing details too are sketchy, but is likely to be comparable to the Mahindra Marazzo, and cost about 30-40% more than the Ertiga.

“Maruti Suzuki is ready to roll out the next level of excitement with the XL6, a premium MPV, at NEXA showrooms across the country. Apart from the space and functionality that the customers desire for, the all new XL6 offers a blend of sporty design and premium interiors, which will help it in establishing its niche in the MPV segment,” said Shashank Srivastava, executive director in charge of sales and marketing at the automaker.

“The sketch showcases the sporty & premium design, reflecting the aspirations of urban individuals who desire a lifestyle vehicle which delivers high on functionality as well,” the company said.

“Building on the NEXA values of pampering, global, innovative and excitement, the XL6 is bound to appeal customers who are looking to buy a premium 3-row vehicle.”

Photos of the XL6 are widely available on the internet after commuters snapped the vehicle in testing on the road.
