Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest auto maker, has reported a 26% month-on-month fall in the production of passenger vehicles for the month of June, 2019.
Compared to the same month of last year, the decline was 16.3%.
The company reported total passenger vehicle production of 109,641 for June 2019, compared to 148,095 vehicles produced in May — a fall of 26%.
Compared to the average passenger vehicle output of 1.43 lakh for the previous three months, the June production is lower by 23.1%.
Both segments of the company’s passenger vehicle division — cars as well as utility vehicles/vans — reported sharp declines in output.
While car production fell by 25.22% on month, that of UVs and vans were down by 28.33%.
The numbers corroborate reports that automakers have been idling capacity in light of poor sales in recent months.
In June, Maruti Suzuki’s auto sales fell by about 14% from a year ago to 1.45 lakh, following an even sharper, 23% fall in May.
