Samsung India introduced two new 10-inch plus tablets, with the cheaper one priced at Rs 15k and the costlier one, which comes with an AMOLED display, at Rs 35,999.

The premium model, called Galaxy Tab S5e, is probably the only tablet in India with an AMOLED display.

It is also slim, at 5.5 mm, and weighs only 400 gm.

The cheaper model, Galaxy Tab A 10.1, weighs 470 gm, but is considerably thicker at 7.5 mm.

Galaxy Tab S5e also comes with 4 GB of RAM paired with Snapdragon 670, while the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 ships with Exynos 7904 with 2GB of RAM.

The Snapdragon 670 chipset found on Galaxy Tab S5e is considerably more powerful than the Exynos 7904. The Snapdragon set up should score about 5,200 points on Geekbench, while the Exynos 7904, also found on Galaxy M20, scores about 4,100.

The difference is even more marked in single-core process, where the Exynos model scores about 1,350, and the Snapdragon 670 scores about 1,900.

The most remarkable aspect of the Galaxy Tab S5e has to be its display as it is one of the rare tablets that come with an AMOLED screen.

Due to its substantially higher cost of production, AMOLED displays have largely been confined to phones.

OLED TVs, for example, cost about three to six times more than their LCD counterparts.

In Samsung’s own words: “Galaxy Tab S5e’s 10.5” Super AMOLED display comes with a 16:10 screen ratio, allowing users to enjoy an immersive viewing experience. The Tab S5e offers a 10.5-inch Edge to Edge Display and slimmed-down bezels to create an unprecedented 82% screen-to-body ratio for an enhanced viewing experience that will bring your content to life.”

The screen has a resolution of 2,560 * 1,600, which is almost twice as crisp as a full-HD display.

The Tab S5e also features Dolby Atmos integration with sound by AKG, a quick-charging 7,040mAh for up to 14.5 hours of non-stop viewing.

Though it’s no competitor to the iPad Pro, the Galaxy Tab S5e does throw in a few productivity oriented features.

“Catering to the multitasking needs of millennials, Galaxy Tab S5e allows the user to easily switch between DeX mode and Android mode by connecting the tablet to its dedicated POGO Keyboard (sold separately). Also, the new and improved DeX makes multi-tasking a breeze due to its new UI and optimization of more applications.

“DeX supports 20 windows operations at a time and also helps consumer operations like drag and drop and minimize, maximize and thus improving their productivity.”

The book cover keyboard can be purchased for Rs 3,500 for those buying before July 21.

Galaxy Tab S5e will go on sale from June 24 across all leading retail stores, Samsung e-Shop and Samsung Opera House.

Galaxy Tab S5e’s Wi-Fi variant will also be available on Amazon.in, while the Wi-Fi +LTE variant will also be available on Flipkart.
