The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has given a Rs 276-cr order to J Kumar Infraprojects to build an elevated road from the ending point of the Mulund-Airoli bridge to the Thane-Belapur highway.
The elevated road would ease traffic for those going from areas near Mulund to Navi Mumbai.
At present, motorists have to go through the city roads of Airoli before reaching the Thane-Belapur highway, the main highway going parallel to Mumbai city on the Maharashtra mainland side.
The Mulund-Airoli bridge is one of the three bridges across the Thane creek that separates the Mumbai city from the rest of Maharashtra.
It is used by motorists from South of Thane, Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Powai and so on to cross over to the mainland.
