PVR Cinemas, the country’s largest cinema exhibition chain, said it has opened a four-hall multiplex cinema at Garuda Mall in Mysore.
The multiplex has 948 seats and comes with 2K projection systems, Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound and next generation 3-D screens.
The property is spread over 29,500 square feet.
Chairman and MD Ajay Bijli said the South Indian market has been doing well and the company is keen to expand in the region.
“(The) south has been a very successful market for us,” Bijli said. “We are going bullish in terms of expansion in the region as the market is ripe; people are ready to consume different programming mix.”
With the launch, PVR now has 89 screens and 12 properties in the state of Karnataka, most of which are located in Bangalore.
The state now accounts for about half of the 164 screens and 25 properties that PVR has in South India.
On a pan-India level, PVR now has 634 screens at 136 properties in 53 cities.
The multiplex, said the company, has been designed as a heritage property with features such as double jali design on the fascia of concessions and box office.
