Arnab Goswami, head of Republic Channel, has urged the Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa to resign instead of facing the trust vote.
“We at Republic feel that the game is slipping away from the BJP,” he said. “The fact is that the BJP cannot go on this route that we are the largest party and therefore (we must form the government.”
Goswami said there JD(S) and the Congress Party will not be able to build a long-term partnership and the BJP will soon be able to make a come back.
“This is the moment of truth. Even now, Yeddyurappa, if he quits, will swing it towards him.. Cut your losses, do a strategic retreat now,” he urged.
Goswami, formerly the editorial head of Times Now, floated Republic TV with the financial backing of Rajeev Chandrasekhar, a member of the Rajya Sabha and vice-chairman of the National Democratic Alliance led by the BJP in Kerala.
Republic TV has been trying to differentiate itself from other channels by not being part of the ‘leftist’ mainstream of journalism in India.
The channel’s launch has led to a general shift towards the right in many of its competitors as well as they tried to address allegations of political bias.
The BJP faces a crucial floor test in the Karnataka legislative assembly at around 4 PM today.
