Mahindra & Mahindra launched two high-power tractors under its Novo brand.
The 65 horsepower variant with two-wheel drive has a starting price of Rs 9.99, while the 75 HP variant with four-wheel drive costs Rs.12.5 lakh.
Currently most of the tractors available in India are in the 30-40 horsepower range. Like most tractors sold in India, the new models will also be based on the open station (open seat) design, without a cabin.
The company said the model were designed and developed in-house at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. The tractors have been developed through extensive research with farmers across 12 states, it added.
“The development of Mahindra Novo involved a seeding phase where tractors were tested for performance in 37 applications across 8 states for a cumulative 25000 hours,” said the company, calling it “one of the most extensive testing programmes” in the industry.
The company claims to have incorporated “many new advanced technologies and features” in the Novo series that will provide better productivity and precision.
It is focused on the 65 to 75 HP segment and promises “minimum RPM drop” in all application and soil conditions. The series also has a high lift capacity and precision hydraulic systems, the company said.
“With new benchmarks in technology, comfort and ergonomics, Mahindra Novo is all set to change farming practices and improve productivity & performance and thus the output, leading to Farm Tech Prosperity,” the company said.
