Reliance Infra beats L&T, others to win Koodankulam SSC contract

Anil Ambani Group’s construction and infrastructure arm Reliance Infrastructure said it received an order of Rs 1,081 crore for the construction of a “Common Services System, Structure & Components (SSC) package” and allied civil works for the upcoming Unit 3 and 4 of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project at Tirunelveli District in Tamil Nadu.

SSC’s are a key part of any nuclear reactor.

The contract value includes taxes and duties as well the cost of imported component of US$ 23.2 million (Rs 150 cr), the company said.

It involves the design, engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of SSC package and allied civil works.

The project is to be commissioned in 4 years and 8 months, RInfra said.

It said the company won the contract amidst competition from leading construction players like BHEL, L&T, Tata Projects and BGR.

The company said it is targeting EPC opportunities worth Rs 2 lakh crore and to increase the EPC order book to Rs 50,000 crore by FY19.

In recent months, the company has has secured multiple EPC orders in power sector including 2×250 MW lignite-based CFBC Thermal Power Project from NLC India Limited, Flue Gas Desulphurization works of 3 x 500 MW power plant from NTPC Limited.
