L&T gets one more order from Nuclear Power Corporation

Two weeks after it announced a deal to supply forgings for six indigenous nuclear plants being set up by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India, construction major Larsen & Toubro reported yet another order related to same plants.

This time, L&T’s order is to supply steam generators and shields for the Fatehabad plant.

Interestingly, Bharat Heavy Electricals or BHEL has also reported getting a contract for steam turbines for the Fatehabad plant for Rs 736 cr. L&T said its contract was worth Rs 747 cr.

“These Steam Generators and End Shields will be manufactured at L&T’s integrated, state-of-the-art Hazira manufacturing complex in Gujarat, which is one of the largest of its kind in South Asia,” it said.

Steam generator is a critical equipment of a nuclear power facility and produces steam by using heat produced in a reactor core, while End-Shield is used to prevent the direct radiation coming out from a reactor core.

The orders are part of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India’s implementation of a lndmark 7.7 GW nuclear expansion for India. The Corporation has started sourcing materials for six of the ten nuclear reactors announced by the government in December.

“We are pleased that country’s premier nuclear power utility NPCIL has time and again reposed its confidence in our capabilities, quality and timeliness of delivery,” L&T said.

L&T has delivered 51 Steam Generators and 36 End Shields for Indian PHW Reactors (PHWR) & Fast Breeder Reactors (FBR).
