Hero MotoCorp said it has launched the 2018 version of its extremely successful commuter bike Super Splendor.
The bike will continue to be powered by a 125cc engine. However, it more powerful compared to the outgoing version as it has a peak output power of 8.4 kW or 11 PS (horsepower) at 7,500 rotations per minute.
The outgoing version has an engine that does not run as fast. As a result, the peak output from the outgoing model is 9 British Horsepower at 7,000 rotations per minute.
There is also an increase in torque, which is the underlying raw rotating force of the engine itself. The 2018 Super Splendor comes with a torque of 11 Newton Meter at 6,000 rotations per minute, compared to a max torque of 10.35 Nm at 4,000 rpm on the outgoing model.
“The motorcycle offers 27% more power and 6% more torque than its previous generation,” Hero MotoCorp said.
As a result, the new bike reaches a top speed of 94 km/h, slightly higher than 90 km/h on the outgoing model.
The new model has been priced at Rs 57,190 in Delhi, before taxes. This is slightly higher than the outgoing model’s price of Rs 56,540.
The headlamp will be ‘on’ all the time in the new model, in keeping with the requirements of safety. The bike also has a side stand indicator.
The company said it has ‘updated’ the seat profile, and made the rear tyre wider.
The Super Splendor 2018 also comes with an under-seat storage and a side utility box with a lock.
“Targeted at young professionals, the new Super Splendor offers best‐in‐class performance and convenience,” the automaker said.
Hero MotoCorp enjoys a market share of more than 50% in the domestic motorcycle market.
