After L&T, Jain Irrigation too gets PMC contract for water supply revamp

Days after Larsen & Toubro reported receiving an order to revamp Pune’s municipal water supply network, Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd too said it won a Rs. 375 Cr contract from Pune Municipal Corporation for revamping the distribution system.

“The contract involves ‘Study, Survey, Investigation, Assessment, Design validation and Revamping of entire Water Supply System including Water Audit, Non Revenue Water reduction, SCADA, Bill reading and generation, Operation and Maintenance of the system’,” it said.

It is not clear what the relationship between this deal and that of L&T is.

“This project involves a pipeline of 508Km, installation & billing for 49,000 water meters including 1339 kms laying of utility ducts apart from water pipe line,” the water and pipes company said.

“Pune Municipal Corporation has drawn up an ambitious plan to provide on a 24X7 basis pressurized water supply to residents in its area and also has decided to implement 100% smart metering covering every household of Pune City over the next 5 years.

“The scheme envisages elimination of the Non – Revenue Water (NRW) of the city by plugging losses and upgrading the entire water supply network. Pune is the first large city in India which will execute a project of this nature on such a large scale,” it added.

Under this contract, Jain Irrigation Systems will undertake a detailed study and analysis of the present intermediate water supply system.

It will then provide a solution to convert it in to 24×7 equitable water distribution system with pressure and reduce leakages, maintenance and non-revenue water. The new network will also have SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system, the company said.

“We are proud to have received the order for creating an integrated network of drinking water supply for such a large city and residents of Pune City will experience on completion a seamless drinking water supply at constant pressure with correct metering and billing,” said Atul Jain, Jt Managing Director of the company.

“We hope this will act like a model project for other cities in Maharashtra and other parts of the country also.

Jain Irrigation provides solutions for agriculture, piping and infrastructure and supplies irrigation systems, PVC Pipes, HDPE Pipes, Plastic Sheets and so on.

L&T too had reported receiving a Rs 1,680 cr order from the PMC last week.

L&T’s contract included the supply, laying, testing and commissioning of water transmission pipelines and optical fiber cable ducts and the construction of sumps & house service connections.

L&T will also conduct water audits, non-revenue water reduction, supervisory control and data acquisition, bill reading & generation and other associated electromechanical & instrumentation works.
