The Central Board of Secondary Education, the country’s largest national-level school certification body, is tweaking its rules of affiliation, the government said.
“Although no financial and organizational lacunae have been observed, still, considering the future needs, the Board is considering to revamp the affiliation byelaws,” Prakash Javadekar, union minister for human resources development, said.
The minister did not give further details, such as by when the new norms would be published or what the expected changes are.
The CBSE is estimated to have close to 20,000 schools affiliated to it. It conducts the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) for classes X and XII, and also lays down broad curriculum for higher classes.
Under current byelaws, a school must have no less than one acre of land for imparting Physical & Health Education and for conducting games.
It also requires that the school be controlled by a trust or society or company registered under Section 25 of the Companies Act.
