Bajaj Auto reported strong sales growth for January, with overall motorcycles jumping 36% on year to 2.89 lakh units and three-wheeler sales setting an all-time monthly record.
TWO WHEELERS
Domestic sales of motorcycles were up 36% at 1.63 lakh, while exports of motorcycles rose 37% to 1.26 lakh.
This has come as a relief to the company, which had been seeing declining motorcycle sales this year so far.
Thanks to January numbers, the company has returned to growth for the financial year 2017-18, with motorcycle numbers up 3% compared to the same 10 months of last financial year.
January has been a good month for motorcycle manufacturers so far, with Royal Enfield yesterday reporting a 31% jump.
THREE WHEELERS
Total three-wheelers sold was 64,211, which was more than double the 30,093 three-wheelers sold in the same month of 2017, and monthly record.
In the domestic market, Bajaj Auto sold 39,082 three-wheelers, which was 2.5 times the 15,385 three-wheelers sold in the same month of 2017.
The domestic sales of three-wheelers is also an all-time record, it said.
Exports of three-wheelers were up 71% in January to 25,129.
For the year so far, total three-wheeler sales are up 32% at 5.13 lakh.
