Sales of Royal Enfield motorcycles rose 31% in the month of January when compared to the same month last year, said its manufacturer Eicher Motors.
Eicher said it sold a total of 77,878 Royal Enfield bikes in January, or 2,512 bikes every day.
The growth was led by sales of smaller Enfield bikes. Sales of bikes with engine capacities of up to 350 cc far outstripped those of models with bigger engines.
Out of the total 77,878 bikes sold, nearly 94% had engine capacities of 350 cc or less.
The number of 350 cc bikes sold in January this year rose to 72,889 from 55,217 in January last year, a growth of 32%.
In comparison, the company sold only 4,989 bikes of engine capacity higher than 350 cc during the same month, translating to a year-on-year growth of 12%. Among the heavier bikes is the popular 411 cc Royal Himalayan.
Out of the total 77,878, 1,673 bikes were sold outside India, it said.
