“I won’t be coming here again, I think,” said Infosys co-founder and chairman Nandan Nilekani at the company’s quarterly results press conference, indicating that he may step down from his role at Infosys sooner rather than later.

Nilekani faced several questions from journalists about how long he planned to stay in the role of the chairman.

“I have said I will stay as long as needed,  and not a day longer,” he said.

Nilekani is juggling two jobs at the current time, heading the Unique Identification Authority of India as well as playing troubleshooter at Infosys, which was left wobbling after former CEO Vishal Sikka quit abruptly, charging founder Narayana Murthy with meddling in the company’s affairs.

Nilekani is learnt to be a reluctant troubleshooter and is reported to be keen for the company to manage its own affairs internally.

A month ago, Infosys board of directors announced that it has chosen Capgemini executive Salil Parekh to be the new CEO, going with a more conservative candidate compared to the previous appointment of Vishal Sikka.
