The fire at Mumbai’s Kamala Mill Compound has disrupted the broadcasting operations of India’s biggest media conglomerate Times Group.
Channels such as Movies Now, Romedy Now, MN+ and so on are offline, while news channels — including ET Now, Mirror Now and Times Now have had to transmit from make-shift studios and locations.
Anchors of ET Now, which is heavily dependent on studio-content, were seen sitting in outdoorsy locations to deliver market news on the last day of trading in 2017.
A fire broke out in the week hours today at the “1 Above” restaurant and the “Mojo Bistro”, both located in Kamala Mills, close to the Times Network offices.
More than a dozen people — mostly women — are reported to have died, primarily due to suffocation.
Worli and Lower Parel, which used to be home to many of India’s top textile factories such as those of Century Mills, Kamala Mills and Bombay Dyeing, were the first locations to see a transformation of the mill compounds into hubs of new-age industries such as media, finance and advertising.
Most of India’s top media houses, including Network18 and Zee Media, have extensive presence in this area.
