According to sources, Edit II Productions, which produces the massively successful Hindi comedy Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain for &TV, is likely to produce another comedy ‘Jijaji Chhat Par Hain‘, this time for SAB TV.
&TV, for the record, is a brand of Zee Entetainment, while SAB TV is owned by Sony Pictures.
Unlike Bhabhiji, which revolves around the theme of adulterous love for another man’s wife, Jijaji will have a more traditional story line involving a couple of bachelors and the unmarried daughter of their landlord.
One of the two bachelors dons the costume of a woman after the duo find it next to impossible to get a house on rent. The two then pretend to be man and wife.
However, the landlord’s daughter figures out what is going on, and the serial will revolve around the attempts by the tenants to keep their secret under wraps by placating the daughter.
The role of the daughter will be donned by Hiba Nawab.
Bhabhiji, based loosely on the 90s era Shriman Shrimati is one of the rare hits among sitcoms in India.
The comedy scene on Indian TV is almost completely dominated by stand-up shows, including the enormously successful ‘Kapil Sharma Show’.
Most of the scripted shows on TV are regular ‘soaps’ that revolve around ‘kitchen politics’ between a mother in law and her various daughters in law, set in the traditional Indian joint family.
Bhabhiji, on the other hand, is set in the more realistic background of the modern urban nuclear family.
