Vodafone increases data on 349 plan to 1.5 GB per day

Following Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel, Vodafone too has increased the data allocation on its Rs 349 plan to 1.5 GB per day from 1 GB per day.

Over the last few days, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular too had increased quota by 50% to cope with competition from Reliance Jio.

These plans, which offer 42 GB over a period of 4 weeks, compete with Jio’s Rs 309 plan that offers 49 GB over a period of 7 weeks, and with its 399 plan that offers 70 GB over 10 weeks.

At Rs 349 for 42 GB, the pack prices data at Rs 8.2 per GB, in addition to giving free calls for 4 weeks.

In comparison, Jio’s 399 plan prices data at Rs 5.7 per GB and also offers free calling for 10 weeks.

The new plans from the incumbent operators also compete with the Rs 509 pack from the newcomer.

The 509 pack offers 98 GB (Rs 5.2 per GB) and free calls for 7 weeks. It has a per-day cap of 2 GB instead of 1.5 GB.

The incumbent operators are in a process of bringing down their prices to make them somewhat competitive with plans offered by Jio, without actually pricing them at the same level.
