Sterlite Technologies said it won a three-year deal to supply high-quality fiber optic cables to du, a telecom network in the UAE.
Financial details were not disclosed.
“With an on-going relationship with du for the past six years, we have renewed the partnership for our innovative range of smarter optical communication technologies.
“Through this agreement, we will be a key supplier of optical fibre products with higher fibre counts for du’s Internet of Things and FTTH requirements in UAE, over the next three years,” said Ankit Agarwal, Head – Global Sales, Sterlite Tech.
Sterlite has been a supplier of fiber optic cables to du for the last six years, he added.
The high-quality fibers covered by the contract are tailored for heavy bandwidth consuming applications such as Augmented and Virtual Reality, Driverless Cars, among others, the Indian company said.
du plans to roll out Internet of Things (IoT) and Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) services. du has 9 million individual customers with its mobile, fixedline, broadband internet, and Home services over its 4G LTE network.
It also has over 100,000 UAE businesses.
Saleem AlBlooshi, Executive Vice President – Infrastructure & Technology, du, said his company was trying to future-proof its infrastructure. “We are matching our smarter network offerings that are ready for transition towards next-generation networks and Internet of Things,” he said.
