Wipro’s IT to power McLaren’s sports car business

Bangalore-based Wipro won a high-profile client by signing up McLaren Technology Group, the company behind the successfull McLaren Formula 1 racing team.

As part of the multi-year partnership, Wipro will deploy its HOLMES artificial intelligence platform to boost the productivity of McLaren’s fast growing automotive and high-tech businesses.

Wipro has been given the title of the official technology provider to the company to help drive digitalisation across its businesses, the Indian company said.

“Digitalisation is a great opportunity for renowned brands like McLaren to reimagine and redesign their products and services from their customer’s perspective,” said NS Bala, President – Manufacturing & Technology for Wipro.

McLaren, originally founded in 1963 by New Zealander Bruce McLaren, has a formidable reputation in Formula 1, having won 20 world championships and over 180 races. Besides the Formula 1 racing team, the company also has several other related businesses.

Recently, the group established the McLaren Applied Technologies business to develop solutions in areas like manufacturing, sport, healthcare and financial services.

It has also built up an elite, high performance sports car business, supported by a global retail network.
