TVS Motor reports strong auto sales for July, Tata modest

TVS Motor Company reported strong auto sales numbers for July, while Tata Motors had a more modest growth in the same month.

TVS domestic scooter sales grew by 35.8% to 92,378 in July 2017.

Motorcycles grew by 15.1% 109,427 in July 2017.

However, moped sales were down.

As a result, total domestic two-wheeler sales grew only 6.2% increasing to 219,396.

However, given the lower pricing for mopeds, the company’s revenue is likely to have grown much faster.

Two-wheeler exports grew by 31.4% increasing to 43,940. Total exports grew by 26.8% to 50,957.

Three-wheeler of the Company registered sales of 7,835 as against 7,960 registered in July 2016.

Total two-wheeler, including exports, registered growth of 9.7% with sales increasing to 263,336 in July 2017.

In July 2017, Tata Motors passenger vehicles had total sales at 14,933, a growth of 10%.

The car segment marginally fell by 1% at 12,125, the utility vehicle segment grew by 110% at 2,808 due to strong demand for Tata HEXA.

Demand for the Tata Tiago and the Tata Tigor continued to be strong, it said.

For the year so far, passenger vehicle sale are up 10%.

Sales of medium and heavy vehicles grew by 10% in July 2017 at 8,640.

“The M&HCV segment saw a rebound in July 2017 and witnessed pick-up in demand and availability because of continued production ramp up. New models launched in the fastest growing segments of 49 ton and 37 ton categories have also gained strong traction in the market,” the company said.

The I&LCV (intermediate and light commercial vehicle) sales were up 28% at 3,354 “on the back of good response to the new Ultra range and the new BS4 range in other products.”

“The SCV (small commercial vehicle) cargo and pickup segment continued the growth momentum at 11,376, higher by 34%, due to good response to the Ace XL, Mega XL, Zip XL, and the Tata Yodha,” the company said.

Passenger Carriers sales (including buses) were at 4,472, lower by 15%, “largely due to supply constraints in the Bus segment.”

The overall commercial vehicles sales in July 2017, in the domestic market were at 27,842, higher by 15%, due to ramp-up of BS4 production, across segments.

Total domestic sales were at 42,775, higher by 13%.

Tata sales including exports at 46,216 vehicles, higher by 7%.

The company’s sales from exports was at 3,441, a decline of 36% due to a drop in volumes in Sri Lanka and Nepal.
