Reliance Communications, which will merge its wireless operations with Aircel in the coming months, has released its international calling app Reliance Global Call in India.
Somewhat similar to the Jio4G Voice app, the app helps you make international calls using RCom’s network using your data connection.
Call rates are as low as Rs 1.4 per minute to the US market.
It will compete with services such as Skype and Google Hangouts, some of which offer free calling to international phone numbers.
The Reliance Global Call service is available to all mobile phone and land-line users of the country—including prepaid and post-paid subscribers on the networks of Reliance, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Tata, Aircel and MTS.
Customers can register for the RGC service via the website, or download the Smartphone app from Android Play Store and iOS App Store.
The app is currently used by Indians abroad to make cheaper calls to their loved ones back home.
“Serving over 2.5 million users world-wide for over a decade now, Reliance Global Call has been providing pioneering service by offering most competitive tariffs, 24×7 customer support, innovative and convenient features like easy dialing, mobile application, calling from any phone and the option to chose from multiple calling plans—to save more as you talk more,” the company said.
Mr Gurdeep Singh, Co-CEO, Reliance Communications, and CEO of RCOM’s Consumer Business, said: “The service enables customers on any telecom network in India to have seamless, instant and convenient access to their loved ones around the globe. Developed for discerning customers to cater to their International Calling needs, the ‘RGC India’ app enables direct-dialing of international contacts, without the need to enter toll-free number or PIN numbers.”
Reliance Global Call also announced an introductory offer with the launch, under which customers can avail talk-time worth Rs 200 on sign-up with just Rs 100.
“The new RGC service will redefine the international calling experience, with users getting high call quality at the lowest call rates, using their existing mobile and land-line connections. The ‘RGC India’ app is available for download on the ‘Play Store’ for android users as well as on the iOS App Store for Apple users,” it added.
It remains to be seen how successful the offer will be in India since some apps already offer similar services, including free phone calls to US and Canada.
