Bharti Airtel said it was expanding its 10-GB-for-Rs-259 offer to all new 4G handsets on its network irrespective of make and brand.
The company was earlier giving the offer to select models and customers.
‘New 4G handset’ usually means any 4G handset that has never been used on Airtel’s network. In other words, if you are already using your 4G handset on the company’s network, you are unlikely to be eligible for the offer.
This clause is designed to prevent ‘loss of revenue’ by way of existing customers switching to the new plan from their current 4G plans.
This also implies that the offer may work for handsets that are not necessarily new, but have never been used on the company’s network so far.
“The special offer, which was introduced in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh last week, has now been extended across India and is available across all brands of 4G handsets,” the operator said.
Airtel 4G is currently available in 18 circles across India. In non 4G circles, 3G data will be available to customers with their 4G devices.
1 GB data will be instantly credited to the customer’s account and the additional 9 GB data can be claimed by the customer through MyAirtel App.
The data will be valid for 28 days. Users can avail a maximum of 3 recharges within 90 days, on the offer.

In case of Airtel, customers are urged to read the fine print for such offers. The company had earlier come out with a statement that it will give unlimited 4G data for 90 days ‘free’. However, the offer turned out to have a monthly cap of 10 GB high-speed data, and one had to shell out around Rs 1,500 for getting the ‘free data’ in the first place. In other words, under the ‘free’ scheme, one was actually paying around Rs 50 per GB.
