Subscribers of Reliance Jio’s ‘free preview’ offer who have got their validity extended free of charge can now use these SIM cards in any phones, according to social media and blog reports.
Reliance Jio had, starting earlier this month, given free extensions to users who booked its SIM cards under the free preview offer starting in May.
The preview offer, which entitles the user to get unlimited free data, voice and messaging, was supposed to expire after 90 days.
However, the company gave free 30-day extensions to those who booked the offer in May, and were up for expiry this month.
According to various reports, these users can now insert their 4G SIM cards in any 4G-enabled phone and avail of the continued benefits.
Meanwhile, it remains impossible to port one’s phone number to the new network as the company has not launched full, commercial operations in India.
However, the facility will help at least dual-SIM users to enjoy Jio’s network without having to carry two phones or being forced to use LYF handsets.
The company is expected to come up with special offers — or even start offering MNP facility — on the occasion of India’s independence day next week.
The operator is currently estimated to be the biggest carrier of wireless data in India. Meanwhile, rivals like Idea and Airtel have already started feeling the impact of the company’s test run, and have missed street expectations on data growth in recent months.
