After Delhi, Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Communications has launched its 4G services in several more circles today, including Mumbai and Kolkata.
Maharasthra, which was among the first telecom zones where the company introduced 4G SIM cards, could also see 4G launch today.
In addition to these three circles, RCom is expected to start 4G services in seven other licensing areas. These are Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, UP East and West, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Rajasthan may not see the starting of the services for another week.
The company has also added 4G tariff plans for Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh on its 4G website today.
RCom is offering 1 GB of 4G data for Rs 300 in Mumbai and for Rs 250 in other circles.
10 GB of 4G data will cost Rs 1350-1400 in most circles, and Rs 1,850 in Mumbai.
Post paid rates are cheaper by around 10% compared to the above rates in the Mumbai circle. But in other states, postpaid rates are more expensive than prepaid data recharges.
The company has also uploaded voice plans on its website.
The company has come under fierce criticism from many of its users for the gap between shutting off of the CDMA service and the starting of its 4G services.
It was expected that its subscribers will be able to use 4G services immediately after they switched over to the GSM service, thanks to the company’s intra-circle roaming agreement Reliance Jio.
However, for some reason, the roaming agreement with Jio was not implemented on the ground in time to assure a smooth transition. Though the CDMA upgraders are able to use RCom’s 2G and 3G services, these are quite limited in their network reach compared to Jio’s 4G network.
RCom is also setting up its own 4G network on Band 5, also in association with Reliance Jio. To visit RCom’s 4G tariff page, click here.
