Wipro, one of India’s top IT outsourcing companies, said it has won an IT infrastructure “transformation contract” from the ASSA ABLOY Group, one of the world’s biggest door-opening solutions provider.
As part of the five-year agreement, Wipro will consolidate ASSA ABLOY’s existing data centers in the EMEA region and implement a cloud-based service model, which will include laaS (Infrastructure as a Service) and PaaS (Platform as a Service).
As is customary, no revenue details of the deal were announced.
IaaS and PaaS are cloud-technology services where the client moves from in-house infrastructure to third-party servers and computers for most of their IT requirements. This saves the company from having to buy and maintain IT hardware, while assuring regular and recurring revenue to service providers like Wipro.
“The deployment will leverage Wipro’s Boundaryless Data Center offering and will provide a full suite of IT infrastructure management services to ASSA ABLOY’s global organisation. This solution will bring in a high level of agility, and a consumption-based IT service model powered by an user-friendly service Catalog,” it said.
ASSA ABLOY has about 44,000 employees, operations in more than 70 countries and sales close to 57 billion Swedish Kroner.
ASSA ABLOY has expanded globally through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions.
“The goal of this IT engagement is to improve the efficiency of the Company’s data center services by moving them into Wipro’s BoundaryLess Data Center (BLDC) offering and establishing a global delivery model through Wipro’s ServiceNXT, the company’s integrated Managed Services framework,” Wipro said.
European companies, being more conservative than American ones, have been slow in taking advantage of global sourcing to cut costs.
Jens Nielsen, CIO, ASSA ABLOY Group said, “This engagement is strategic to our business continuity operations and we believe that Wipro is the best partner for us. With our data center infrastructure supported by Wipro, we can drive added efficiencies, and most importantly, bring about joint innovations to serve our customers better.”
Carl-Henrik Hallström, Head of Nordic Region, Wipro Limited said, “In order to keep pace With rapid globalisation, rising customer expectations and emerging technologies, enterprises must reinvent their traditional IT infrastructure and data center service capabilities. We are confident that Wipro’s BoundaryLess Data Center offering will enable ASSA ABLOY optimize, automate and manage its data centers in an agile manner. Furthermore, this engagement reiterates our continued focus and investments in the Nordic region.”
Wipro has a workforce of over 160,000, and serves clients in 175+ cities across 6 continents.
