China’s Lenovo can justifiably be proud of their performance in 2015, with two of its models — A6000 Plus and K3 Note — taking the two top spot for the highest number of smartphones sold by Flipkart in India during the year.
Not surprisingly, a recent report had pointed out that over half the smart phones being sold in the country come with 4G.
“2015 has definitely been the year of affordable 4G smartphones.. With two 4G models from Lenovo featuring in the list of top 10 smartphones sold in 2015, Lenovo certainly emerged as the favourite smartphone brand of the year,” said Flipkart in a year-end statement.
According to #FlipTrends, a year ender report by Flipkart, Lenovo A6000 plus and Lenovo K3 Note were the top two most sought after smartphones in 2015.
Motorola closely followed with two smartphones, Moto G 3rd Gen and Moto E 2nd Gen featuring at the third and sixth position respectively.
Xiaomi Mi 4i & Redmi Note 4G took fourth and fifth spots followed by Samsung Galaxy On7, Samsung Galaxy J7, Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 and Asus Zenfone 5.
The popularity of these smartphones clearly shows the digital consumers’ shift towards 4G enabled smartphones. 2015 saw the rise of brands and models that could not just offer consumers the features they desire but were smart on the pocket as well.
Of course, the picture is not complete as these are only Flipkart’s numbers. Lenovo’s biggest competitor from India, Yu, typically sells only on Amazon. It can be estimated that the No. 3 and No. 4 spots would go to Yu this year on a national level.
Amazon’s numbers are not out yet.
The pricing of 4G phones has come out as a real surprise for 2015. A year earlier, 4G phones used to cost above Rs 20,000. During the 2015 Diwali sale, Amazon was selling the Phicomm Energy 5-inch 4G handset at just Rs 3,999.
