There have been many discounts and offers on smartphones from ecommerce players such as Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon this Diwali.
But none would come close to what Amazon and Phicomm are offering — a 4G phone with Snapdragon processor and a 5-inch HD display at a jaw-dropping price of Rs 3,999. Users can also avail of credit card offers to reduce the price further on Amazon.
The offer is on Phicom Energy 653 — which was earlier selling for Rs 4,999. The phone has 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory which is expandable up to 64GB.
The dual SIM smartphone comes with a 2.3 Ah battery. The offer makes the phone by far the cheapest 4G phone with an HD display. An HD display implies that the screen has at least 1 mln pixels on it, increasing the ‘clarity’.
The nearest competitor is the Yu Yunique, which is available on Snapdeal under a Diwali offer at Rs 4,999.
However, it is very difficult for the Yu phone to match the value that is being offered by the Phicomm handset. The Energy 653 is based on the Android 5.1 Lolipop operating system and comes with an 8 MP camera at the back and a 2 MP shooter at the front.
Another phone that is also selling at Rs 3,999 for a limited time is the 4G-enabled Lenovo A2010. However, the Lenovo model has a 4.5 inch screen, which means the Phicomm model has 23.5% more area than the Lenovo 2010. In terms of clarity too, the Lenovo model trails behind. It has only 40% of the pixels (dots) that the Phicomm model has on its display.
Phicomm says that it has service centers in over 100 cities in India.
“The 5 inch HD screen (1280×720) is made from Full Lamination technology that enhances the clarity of the screen, contributes to a slimmer screen and makes the entire viewing experience richer. It even employs anti-dazzle technology to make it easier to view the screen in natural lighting,” Phicomm said.
The phone supports both of the LTE bands deployed in India, including 1800 Mhz and 2300MHz.
Of course, being an entry-level phone, buyers cannot expect high quality photos. The back camera is the weakest point of this phone, going by user feedback. However, for basic users, the phone offers value for money at the Rs 4,000 price range.
Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal have been making offers upon offers to win over customers during the crucial Diwali season.
However, Flipkart’s offers can be seen clearly only on the mobile phone, which has restricted its reach, while the others are available both on mobile phones as well as on computers.
Amazon is also offering a discount on Yu Yuphoria, which is available for a limited time at Rs 5,999. The Yuphoria has 2 GB of RAM and an HD display.
In addition, Amazon is also offering deep discounts on Xiaomi models, such as Mi4, now available for Rs 12,999 and Mi 4i and Mi Pad – both priced at Rs 9,999.
