Reliance Communications has introduced a special offer under which customers who use the AC2739 CDMA modem can get ultra-high-speed wireless data (known as Rev B) at just Rs 28.2 per GB under its “Freedom Recharge” offer.
Under the offer, anyone can recharge for Rs 1947 before Sept 30 and get 69 GB of high-speed data credited to his or her account, which works out to Rs 28.2 per GB.
The data is valid for 69 days or about 2 months and 8 days. To extend the validity by another 28 days, users can top up with Rs 255 (2 GB pack) before the 69 days expire.
It should be noted that the ultra-high-speed data is available only for those using the Huawei AC2739 modem or older ones. Besides, those who are using modems that are older than AC2739 — such as AC2739 — will not be able to get very high speeds as these modems use only one carrier at a time.
In contrast, the AC2739 modem is built on a faster technology called Rev B and can use three carriers at the same time.
With each carrier offering a speed of upto 4.9 Mbps, the total speed can go up to 14.7 Mbps, while those who use older modems such as the AC2739 can only hit a maximum speed of 3.1 Mbps.
It should also be noted that the scheme may not be available for those who use recently-launched devices such as ZTE AC3633 and the HAIER E28. Similarly, those who use Lava MF 802s and HAIER M1 may also not be eligible for the offer as they are branded as ‘Reliance Wi-Pod‘ devices.
On the other hand, ZTE AC2791 has been listed in the non-Wi Pod section though it also supports 14.7 Mbps speed. It is possible that RCom is placing a speed limit of 3.1 Mbps on this device, and not on Wi Pod branded devices.
Still, even a download speed of 3.1 Mbps is comparable to what is provided by 3G operators like Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular, who charge around Rs 120-250 per GB.
