Meizu, the Chinese brand that has created ripples with its high-quality M2 Note priced at just Rs 9,999, will start its first flagship sale at 2 pm today (Aug 26).

The company has also started giving customers the option of sending their phones to their Chennai office for repair and maintenance, and has also promised that India-wide service centers will be set up in a few days.

Meanwhile, Meizu MX5 is expected to be priced around Rs 20,000 and will be the most affordable flagship-class phone in India. The model, with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED full-HD display, will take on OnePlus Two, which is priced at Rs 25,000, and Samsung Galaxy A7 and A8 — priced in the Rs 25,000-32,000 range.

UPDATE: The phone has been priced at Rs 19,999 in India, as expected. The company also said it will give servicing on doorstep, implying that customers can have their phones picked up from home.

Gionee S7, also priced around Rs 20,000, is the only serious competitor to the MX5 at its price range, while Vivo X5Pro gives it competition in terms of looks.

It will also go head to head against the new Sony Xperia C5 Ultra, priced around Rs 29,000 and being officially launched in stores this week.

At its current price, the Meizu MX5 will be impossible to beat in terms of value for money in this price range.

The phone, however, does force the user to go for an MicroSD card or a second SIM, but not both.

The MX5 will offer a choice between having 16 GB in-built (or around 11.5 GB available) and a 32 GB version, though we’re not sure if the big-memory version will get launched in India.

The MX5 has three key USPs, and other than the lack of memory card slot, practically no big drawbacks other than the one mentioned above.

The company has used fingerprint scanner technology from Sweden in the device.

Its three key areas of strength are looks, display and camera. “Guaranteed to make an impression, MX5 comes with an exquisite all-metal body, 12-gun 3D sand blasting & superb polish,” the company said today.

The phone comes with 3 GB of RAM, Helio X10 chipset and a decent 3.15 Ah battery.

MEIZU SERVICE CENTERS

The company has started giving its customers two options for getting their in-warranty products repaired in India.

The first is to have the handset shipped to their Chennai office, and the second is to wait for the launch of pan-India service network.

“Please consider if you want to send the phone to our maintenance center, or you could wait for some days and repair your phone at our service centers in other cities when they’re available,” it told a user.
