CouponDunia, which specializes in issuing discount coupons for online retailers, has ventured into the offline space with newspaper coupons.

The physical coupons can be redeemed for instant discounts on grocery, homecare and personal care purchases at local supermarkets, it said.

“The first edition runs Saturday, July 25, 2015 in mainline newspapers across Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Discounts on products from 40 brands in categories like food & beverage, personal care and home care will be available,” it said.

In Saturday’s newspapers, coupons will be available from brands such as Heinz, Mother’s Recipe, Cornitos, RB (Reckitt Benckiser) India, Fortune Rice Bran Health Oil, Garnier Men and many more.

Participating supermarkets include Star Bazaar, SRS Value Bazaar, HyperCITY and several others. These coupons will also be available on the CouponDunia’s website and can be redeemed at online supermarkets like MeraGrocer, Jiffstore, HomeNeed.com.

To avail the discounts, consumers need to cut out the coupons and redeem it at CouponDunia’s partner supermarkets in these three cities.

The coupons apply above any existing in-supermarket offers, it said.

Promotion companies like CouponDunia make money by driving traffic to retailers. For every coupon that is redeemed or claimed by a consumer, CouponDunia gets to make a certain commission or reward. Retailers benefit as they receive higher traffic.

Commenting on the launch, Saaket Arora, Business Head, FMCG, CouponDunia said newspaper coupons for grocery, homecare and personal care products in India are an extremely popular phenomena in the western countries.

“CouponDunia has been the largest destination for digital coupons in India, and we now want to reach out to a new category of audience through this concept. With this initiative, we aim to reach approximately 20 lakh households across three cities.

“We are starting with three cities and plan to extend this initiative to other cities, more brands and supermarkets in the coming months. Our aim is to create an easily accessible source for discounts on FMCG products to ensure our consumers save money on their monthly spend. We want to encourage the ‘habit of saving’ by introducing coupons for every need of a consumer’s lifestyle,” he added.
