Aircel, the challenger among telecom operators in India, said it has implemented pan-India mobile number portability on its network with effect from today.
With this, all major operators in India have put in place the system required for pan-India mobile number portability.
The procedure and process for pan India MNP remains the same as that of traditional MNP: Generate Unique PIN and hand over the filled MNP form to the operator you want to shift to.
In fact, Aircel has simplified the national MNP procedure for its subscribers in case they want to shift within the Aircel network.
For that, all that customers need to do is to present a Unique Porting Code (UPC) to their preferred Aircel Retail Outlet.
“This landmark step enables customers from across the country to easily shift from one State to another, if required, without now having to face the ordeal of changing their mobile numbers,” Aircel said.
Aircel offers among the cheapest calling rates in India. However, being a new operator in most circles, it has to rely on Reliance Communication and Tata Teleservices’ networks to ensure that it has decent coverage in most areas. The three operators have inked intra-circle roaming pacts to enable sharing of coverage.
Earlier this year, Aircel launched the lowest-ever unlimited Aircel to Aircel Roaming, STD and Local calls at just 10p/min, calling it ‘Uniting India @ 10p/min’.
More recently and in another industry-first, the company introduced ‘Five States, One Rate’ to its customers in South India, enabling roaming on the Aircel network with FREE incoming calls while travelling between five states, namely Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and with a constant outgoing Local/STD call rate at 1 paisa per second
