Aeropostale, an iconic American brand like Abercrombie & Fitch and Levis, has entered the Indian market under a tie-up with Arvind Ltd, one of India’s biggest clothing makers.
The agreement with Arvind will cover both brick-and-mortar retailing as well as ecommerce, the companies said.
Under the agreement, Arvind will open 30 standalone stores for Aeropostale, as well as 25 shop-in-shop outlets over the next three years.
Roll-out of Aeoropostale stores will start in March 2006.
Arvind will also launch an e-commerce portal for the US brand.
“Aeropostale will be the first of its kind youth-focused retail format in India. With 40% of India’s population below the age of 20, we expect it to be hugely popular and successful,” J Suresh, MD and CEO of Arvind Lifestyle Brands said.
Arvind has licensing agreements with other global brands as well, including GAP, Arrow, US Polo and Izod.
