MTNL’s chairman and managing director PK Purwar has resigned, the company said.
MTNL gave no reason for the development, but only said that Purwar had “relinquished the charge of CMD.”
NK Yadav has been appointed in his stead as the new MTNL head, it said.
Purwar, a long-serving director of finance at MTNL, was appointed CMD of MTNL only a year ago.
He was appointed in the middle of last year after AK Garg retired.
MTNL is in a bad shape financially as the company has been raking up losses of thousands of crores year after year.
MTNL officials and employees blame higher management for the losses and MTNL’s inability to tap into new growth areas. The new government has promised to revive both public sector telecom companies – MTNL and BSNL or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.
