Microsoft is planning to launch LTE-enabled versions of its Lumia 640 and 640 XL in India by the end of this month or early next month, a distributor privy to the information said.
The Lumia 640 is currently priced at Rs 11,999 and the LTE version of the phone would be priced around Rs 15,000, according to the source.
The XL version of the phone, which has a large 5.7-inch display, is currently priced at Rs 15,500. The LTE version of this phone would be priced around Rs 20,000, the source added.
The Lumia 640 and its bigger cousin were launched in India a month ago. While the two phones were rumored to come with LTE, Microsoft ultimately launched the 3G-only versions of the phone in India.
The 3G only versions are powered by the Snapdragon 400 chipset, while the LTE versions will be powered by the Snapdragon 410 platform.
The new phones will support Category 4 LTE in the following bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 38 and 40.
The two Lumias already launched in India are not cheap by any standards, and spec-for-spec, there are many other phones that offer better value for money.
However, Lumia phones have a reputation for having high display quality with better blacks.
