Lenovo A7000 launched in India at price of Rs 8,999

Lenovo A7000, the successor to the wildly successful A6000, has been launched at a compelling price of Rs 8,999, which makes it on-par with the Yu Yureka in terms of value for money and features.

The price has been made possible by the use of MediaTek processor, which offers top-of-the-line features at lower prices.

The notables advantages of the new model over A6000 are the following:

a) At 5.5-inch vs 5 inch, the A7000 is a bigger model and is more suited to data-oriented usage. Most mid-range phones are now in the 5.5-inch size range as these phones are largely used for internet consumption rather than for making calls. As a result, a bigger size is more suitable for surfing and chatting.

b) The phone comes with Android Lolipop instead of KitKat. The A6000, despite being a value buy, comes with the KitKat operating system, which is seen as dated for a new purchase. Lolipop has better animations and visual customisations, and buttons look more stylish. Lolipop is also supposed to prolong battery life by around 15%. In addition, the newer operating system is also supposed to be more secure than KitKat.

c) More power – The Lenovo A7000 comes with an octa-core, 64-bit MediaTek MT6752m processor compared to a quad-core Snapdragon 410, which is supposed to double the power of the phone. In terms of Antutu benchmarks, the earlier model used to score about 20,000 points while the new one scores above 40,000. RAM has been doubled from 1 GB to 2 GB.

d) Front camera has been boosted to 5 MP compared to 2 MP on A6000, while the back camera resolution has been unchanged at 8 MP.

e) To power the higher specifications, the new model will also come with a 2.9 Ah battery compared to 2.3 Ah. However, this may not really result in much of an improvement in battery life as a bigger display and a quad-core processor will draw more power than those in the A6000.

These are the positive changes. The new phone had all the potential to be a true mid range winner, if only the display resolution was tweaked up from the 720p seen on the earlier model.

In terms of specifications, the A7000 is actually very similar to the HTC Desire 820, which is being sold for around Rs 21,000 in India. Even if the phone is priced at Rs 12,000, it is still a decent option as the Huawei Honor 4X, which has 2 GB of RAM, 5.5-inch 720p display and a quad-core processor, is priced at Rs 10,500.

The Honor 4X, however, has a lower power, Snapdragon 410 processor.
